MOTIVATION
What makes people motivated?
Motivation gives people the courage and idea to do better, It's defined as a driving force that initiate and directs behaviour. So the question is, what motivates YOU?These theorist Abraham Maslow, David McClelland, Clayton Alder and so on are prime examples that can help explain the meaning of what motivation means and how people respond to motivation in their life.
Using their theory will help me explain what I think about motivation and how their theories are relevant.
I believe people are motivated to work towards an achievement when they feel like there is a need to accomplishing something. As if they feel like there is a goal once completed.
Businesses that use money as a motivator
Why do businesses use money as a motivation?
In my opinion I agree with businesses that use money as a motivator because money can help their employee work harder because it gives their employees an opportunity to earn more at work
For example, companies offers a Commission based pay or base + commission type of pay
These type of pay are very strategic to a company because it will enhance customer service to their company, increase sales and help advertise their company
I work on commission and I think it is fantastic! I love that the company I work for gives me an opportunity to earn more money when I'm at work which means I have to work harder to sell their products and provide a better service. This commission pay has kept me around their company for about 3 years already and has pushed me to sell more for their company.
Without commission I would feel not motivated to sell and just go to work to make up my hours and thats it because there are no goals to look forward to
But if a company chooses not to use money as a motivator they can recognizing their employees by offering "employee of the month" awards or even praising them for all the hard work. This way they can still motivate their employees by giving them recognition.

Example of motivation
For instance, In a retail work setting.
When you are at work and you see other people achieve their goal and are doing better than you because they are meeting their daily/weekly sales target. Then we come to your results and see that you haven't been meeting the minimum requirement. You see that other people are, it gives you that force to want to do better because you feel like you aren't meeting what you're supposed to. You look at your coworkers and decided that tomorrow you will step up your game.
That is a simple effort of motivation, analyzing what people are doing and realizing that you could do just the same by working a little harder and following the top sales leader.
Thats why retail sales setting usually have

Sales Associate
Sales associate are usually motivated by the higher position people that can help motivate the staff by reminding the team what is expected, what the incentives are, and how to achieve the goals.
This usually triggers motivation in the team and individuals in the beginning of their shift.
You can be self motivated or motivated by someone else.
Abraham Maslow explains there is a type of life hierarchy by classifying people's priority and needs.
People wonder how can this theory be true?
He categorizes needs from lowest to highest. You must be able to satisfy the lower needs in order to achieve the higher needs.
